Celebrating Four Decades of ORCA

In December of 1985, eighteen roofing contractor representatives from across Ohio gathered at the downtown Sheraton Hotel in Columbus to sign the inaugural documents establishing the Ohio Roofing Contractors Association.

Chuck Bechtel of HJ Becker Company in Dayton led the meeting and served as ORCA’s first president. Chuck would later go on to lead the National Roofing Contractors Association as well. Today, the Bechtel family legacy continues through Cameron Bechtel, who currently serves on the ORCA Board of Directors.

Forty years later, ORCA members, past presidents, industry leaders, and longtime supporters gathered at Deer Ridge Golf Club to celebrate the association’s history, relationships, and continued impact on Ohio’s roofing industry.

40th Anniversary Highlights

Honoring ORCA Leadership Current ORCA President Fred Horner of Advanced Industrial Roofing hosted a special anniversary dinner attended by past presidents Jim Eckstein, Bill Kilkoyne, Jack Petche, Ed Williams, and Bob Willis, along with current board members and industry partners.	Recognizing Family Legacy Bob Willis received special recognition as he and his father, Dick Willis, remain the only father-and-son presidents in ORCA history, reflecting generations of dedication to the roofing industry.
Celebrating Bob Pope Longtime Executive Director Bob Pope was recognized for his decades of leadership and commitment to growing ORCA from its founding through 2025 while helping guide the association through both challenges and successes.	A Sold-Out Celebration The anniversary golf outing sold out weeks in advance as members and industry partners gathered to celebrate ORCA’s milestone year with commemorative gifts, networking, golf, dinner, and plenty of memories shared among old friends and new.

Thank You for 40 Incredible Years

The 40th Anniversary Celebration concluded with a memorable day on the course, commemorative anniversary golf balls provided by Hunter Consulting, and an evening of dinner, prizes, and fellowship that captured the spirit of ORCA.

To the contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, past leaders, and members who have supported ORCA throughout the years, thank you for helping make the Ohio Roofing Contractors Association a lasting success. Here’s to the next forty years.
