The true-up online report will be available on July 1, 2024. At the end of the policy year, we must ensure the estimated premium we set for you was correct. To do this, you must file a true-up report that reflects the actual payroll for that policy year. You must complete the report online using the payroll true-up report service offering by Aug. 15, 2024.
If your true-up exceeds the estimated payroll you'll owe additional premium. If your true-up payroll is less than your estimated payroll, you'll receive a premium credit.
New this year! If you have reported zero payroll and no employees in the past, we may waive true-up reporting. You will be notified if you are eligible for this waiver. If you continue to have no employees, you are not required to submit a true-up report for the policy year beginning July 1, 2023. We will complete the true-up report on your behalf and report $0 in payroll.
Private employers, you will receive your first invoice for the 2024 policy year in June. Your first installment is due by June 21, 2024. However, you have the option to receive a 2% discount by paying the full 12-month estimated annual premium on or before July 1, 2024. Each state has different laws and requirements for workers’ compensation coverage. Consider which states your employees work and make sure they have proper coverage.
We have many resources to help you work through requirements for workers’ compensation outside of Ohio. We also work with a private insurer to offer optional coverage to eligible employers with out-of-state exposures. Through our Other States Coverage program employers can secure coverage nationwide in 46 states.
If you do business outside Ohio, please contact our Other States Coverage unit to discuss options. We want your business to have proper coverage upfront so you can avoid coverage issues and focus on having a safe and successful summer.

Private employers:
Group third party administrators (TPAs):
- Interested in forming groups for the Group-Experience-Rating Program must submit rosters, completed Applications for Group-Experience Rating (AC-24s), and completed Employer Statements for Group-Experience Rating (AC-26s) for the public employer program year beginning Jan. 1, 2025. Rosters and required forms must be submitted to BWC’s secure FTP site by the close of business May 31.
- Employers with questions should contact their group sponsor or TPA before the BWC application deadline.
