New orders/actions/measures
This new order – Ohioans Protecting Ohioans – incorporates the current guidelines and makes them strong advisory practices for individual citizens. Governor DeWine said this new order is a “catch-up” to account for the fact that people are allowed to go to the newly opened businesses, which wasn’t allowed under the mandatory order. This new advisory order is about lifting the personal restrictions that had been in place under the stay at home order – the social distancing, sanitation, travel guidelines – and making them advisory practices. While the personal restrictions will no longer be mandatory, the Governor and Lt. Governor urged individual citizens to take personal responsibility as the virus is still a threat. The Governor called it a moral obligation for all Ohioans to continue to be cautious. The business reopening dates and plans remain in place as separate orders.
Governor DeWine provided an update on yesterday’s news on the state’s veteran’s homes. As of today’s press conference, 28 residents and 5 staff have tested positive at the Sandusky home and the Governor announced that the first resident has passed. There are no positive cases associated with the Georgetown home. 818 residents and staff have tested negative. The Governor also had to announce the passing of another Dept. of Rehabilitation and Correction employee, a member of the staff at the Orient Reception Center.
The Bureau of Workers Compensation will be distributing 2 million face coverings to covered employers for employees – at least 50 face coverings per employer. Face coverings will start shipping out on Wednesday. Governor DeWine encouraged employers to share any extras with local businesses. The face coverings will be paid for with existing budget and will not impact premiums.
The Governor offered his condolences to the Glenn family and ordered flags at the Statehouse and in Muskingum County to fly at half-staff in memory of Annie Glenn, widow of astronaut and former US Senator John Glenn, who passed away this morning at 100 years old from complications of coronavirus.
